After the first session, I felt a lot more comfortable going in to get chemotherapy today. Laura dropped me off at the drop-off point, and I went into the hospital on my own, with the same rucksack with the same activities and blankets that I probably won’t use! Luckily, at Poole Hospital, right before you go into the Cancer Day Unit, there is a brand-new costa coffee. So, I grabbed myself a large coffee and headed into the unit. Again, as per the last time I was welcomed with a group of smiling faces from the burses, was weighed, 95kg, and then taken to my seat in the same bay I was last time.
Due to my last cannula taking so much time to go in, they recommended that I drink lots of water before I come in as dehydration can make it more difficult! And it worked! I drank 2 pints of water before going in, and it went in straight away into the top of my hand. Winning! The treatment today wouldn’t be so long as I was only having the Paclitaxel, so we started as normal with pre-meds, a wait of 35 minutes, chemo for an hour, flush, and then home! This time there were 2 people in the bay I was in, and we just simply chatted the whole time about people’s situation and if they were working. It is actually quite therapeutic going to these “sessions” as you do also get a bit of an indication of what may happen over the next few months etc.
