So today I went for my mid-way mammogram and ultrasound check. I wasn’t nervous about this appointment as I could already feel that the lump in my breast had shrunk! I went to the Ladybird Clinic at Poole Hospital, and as always, all the nurses and doctors were brilliant.
I had the mammogram first, which was not the most comfortable thing in the world. This lady manhandled me into the machine, but it needed to be done to make sure they get an accurate picture! She did make me aware she would be doing it, so it was expected, don’t think she was being abusive, she wasn’t! Ha!
After the mammogram, I walked across the hall and straight into the room for the ultrasound. I led on the bed, and the nurse put the gel on my left breast ready for the scan to start. As the doctor started the scan, I asked if I could look at the screen. I wanted to look because I remember seeing the first scan, and you could see a large black circle shape, which was the tumour. This time, there was a black mark still, but it wasn’t round, it wasn’t a defined shape, but it was there. She explained how she measured it with the machine, and told me that it had shrunk from 28mm down to 13mm! Brilliant news! The chemo is working!
I was secretly hoping that it had completely dissolved from the chemotherapy, just like Sam’s had, however, this was still amazing news, and I still had 4 infusions to go!
The Dr then scanned under my armpit to check the lymph nodes – and again she explained to me how the measure them (I find it all fascinating) and she confirmed that she saw no anomaly with the nodes. Yay!
Really happy with this news, knowing that everything seems to be working as it should be!
