So, this morning I woke up with a bit of a sore throat, but also a swollen tongue and jaw ache. It initially just felt like I hadn’t drunk enough water and dry, but throughout the day the back of my tongue felt like it was getting thicker, and I was squashing my tongue between my teeth. After a few hours of this not going away, I spoke to the Hotline number, and they asked me to come in, as it didn’t sound like normal side effects.
I went into the hospital into the day unit and spoke to one of the nurses, who in turn then handed me over to a doctor to look it. While there, I also mentioned all the body aches I was having, as they had started to increase in my hip’s knees and back.
The body aches are due to the medication that I am taking to increase the white blood cells in my body. It causes aches like growing pains. Now the swollen tongue was my tonsilitis coming back. It seems like it never properly went away, and because I am getting run down, it is now coming back.
I was prescribed another round of antibiotics of penicillin for tonsillitis and told just to take paracetamol for the body aches. In all honesty, I would rather take nothing. I have always been the person who barely takes a headache tablet if I can help it, so taking more prescriptions was not what I wanted. BUT – I needed to get rid of tonsillitis, or the doctors could stop my chemo if my body wasn’t up to it.
