Today we had planned as soon as we knew we I was going for treatment on Xmas Eve. I had no idea how my body was going to react to the treatment, and therefore I didn’t want to promise anyone that I would be leaving my house on Xmas Day. So Laura and I decided we would have Xmas Day on our own, and see people before.Â
So first thing In the morning Laura and I went and saw our awesome friends Rob and Jenna for a coffee and a catch-up. They are beautiful people who the last 2 years we have spent Christmas Day with. So this morning we swapped our Xmas presents. They got me a lovely gift hamper full of things I am going to need over the next few months. Bath salts, lip balms, moisturisers, and more importantly for me, things to keep me busy. I had a jigsaw puzzle (yes, I know, I am 35, not 65 but I love them) and also a remote-control car that I have to build first (again, yes I know, I am also not an 8-year-old boy, but again, I love building cars)! It had sweets, chocolates – everything I could want for the next few months. It was such a thoughtful gift 😊
After a few hours, we went to Purbeck Shooting School. I love clay pigeon shooting, but I hadn’t been in ages. I knew this was something that I probably wouldn’t be able to do going forward for a while, so thought why not! We met up with another of my awesome friends Stowers for a shoot.Â
We were there for about 2 hours, and it was so so nice to see him, but also be out in the fresh air and having a shoot. Laura also had a few shots today, and Dave was trying to help her, which he did successfully – she is pretty good! Not as good as me, but still good… ha!
After this, we went straight to my mum’s house for Xmas Dinner! It was my mum, stepdad, Laura, my gran and me. It was so nice for me to see my family – but I think my family appreciated it a lot also. One of the hardest things that this disease does, affects the people around you. They cannot see that I am coping well with my diagnoses, they may think that I am crying every day (which is completely understandable if I was) but I wasn’t! That just isn’t me – so I think it was refreshing for them to see me, especially my gran as I don’t get to see her that often, and see that I was coping well. Mum and Martin made loads of food – and we stuffed ourselves full!
It was the perfect Xmas.
